The LISEN 17MM Charging MagSafe Phone Holder is the first charging phone holder that we validated to work well with the OpenSourceEV Parts Phone Ball Mount EVO, and NextGen Phone Mount. It attaches easily to the 17MM ball variety of both mounts and secures well. We're big fans of this particular holder because it works extremely well, has a neat, dim blue charging outline, it's an excellent value at under $15, and because it has three key features:
First - the charging capabilities of this phone holder work exceptionally well. It puts out a solid 10W of power consistently to phones that can accept it and doesn't get overly hot. When not charging, it uses nearly no power, which is important if you don't want the 12V battery to run down.
Second - the holder has a rubber stopper at the end. It grips onto the ball well and eliminates the need to really crank down to nut to ensure that your phone is held tight.
Third - this holder comes with the ring that can be optionally installed on phones without a mag safe case. You'll get the ring, clear plastic sticker (for use between the ring and case), wipes, and an alignment tool. An in-case MagSafe setup is more ideal, but having this option is quite welcome.
Installation on OpenSourceEV Parts EVO or NextGen Mounts is easy - slide the securing nut over the ball, snap the holder on, and tight down the nut to secure it down. Three important notes with installing:
- This holder ships with an EXTENDED 17MM ball included. This is needed for use with the NextGen mount so it clears the dash trim.
- I find it helpful to initially screw the holder onto the lock ring. (think tightening down a jar lid) Once it begins to bite, you can secure by tightening down the ring.
- You don't need to overtighten -- it just needs to be snug.
PLEASE NOTE: This part is only a phone holder. You'll need both a mount (such as the NextGen or EVO mount) and a way to deliver power to it (such as the Scosche OBD-II to USB QC 3.0 item)
WARNING: Do NOT leave a phone to charge on this item when your Rivian is off as this will run down the 12V battery.
