The OpenSourceEV Parts TripleLock Phone Mount puts your phone right where you want it in the Rivian R2: at eye level, clear of the steering wheel, and within easy reach. It locks in solid, so your screen stays steady instead of bouncing on every bump, and it leaves the dash vent working exactly as it should.
Designed, manufactured, and supported by OpenSourceEV, and extensively tested in a Rivian R2.
A phone mount is only as good as what it's anchored to. A mount held at just two points acts like a hinge: the weight of your phone rocks it back and forth, and road vibration does the rest. Your screen shakes, the holder works loose, and your phone ends up pointed somewhere you didn't aim it. The TripleLock's third, diagonal contact point removes that hinge. Once it snaps in, it stays put -- on the highway and on rough pavement.
The TripleLock is the part that attaches to your R2. The phone holder is the part that holds your phone. It clamps onto the round ball at the end of the mount, and you can tilt and rotate it to the exact angle you want, then lock it with a small screw on the back.
We've standardized on MagSafe so your phone snaps on and off magnetically with one hand. MagSafe is built into iPhone 12 and newer, and MagSafe-compatible cases are available for nearly every phone on the market, Android included. If your phone or case doesn't have MagSafe, every holder includes a metal ring you can stick to your phone or case so it works the same way.
Four holders are available at checkout, with more coming soon:
Charging holders include a USB-A to USB-C cable and need an OBD-II to USB power source to plug into -- more on that below.
Phone holders are made to fit a few common ball sizes, so the ball on your mount needs to match your holder. The TripleLock is available with a 17mm, 20mm, or 1-inch ball, or a combo pack with all three. The 17mm size fits the vast majority of phone holders, including every holder we sell. The 20mm size fits Offroam x Peak Design co-branded holders. The 1-inch size is for RAM-branded accessories only. If you're buying a holder from us or aren't sure, choose 17mm or the combo pack.
A charging holder needs a power source. The recommended option is the OpenSourceEV OBD-II adapter, which plugs into your R2's OBD-II port (a standard connector found on every modern car) and provides both a USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 port and a USB-C PD port, with up to 48W of total combined output. That's enough to charge your phone at 15W.
Faster 25W wireless charging requires a 15-volt USB-C PD supply, and we tested five OBD-II to USB adapters -- including every one our competitors sell -- and none of them provide it. If someone claims faster charging from an OBD-II port, be very, very skeptical.
