NextGen Phone Mount V2.5 for Rivian R1S & R1T

The OpenSourceEV Parts NextGen Phone Mount V2.5 is the best outboard phone mount for the Rivian R1S and R1T. It installs in the driver-side outboard vent opening -- specifically in the top portion of the opening, above where the vent actually begins. That area has no airflow, so the mount covers unused space without blocking the vent at all. Outside the shadow of the steering wheel, within easy reach, and completely unobtrusive. Manufactured and supported by OpenSourceEV, tested in Rivian vehicles, and built for daily use and road trips alike.

Choose the mount only and pair it with a ball-compatible holder you already own, or add one of five name-brand MagSafe phone holders at checkout. If you want maximum flexibility, the All + Upgrade Kit option includes every ball size and the parts needed to convert this mount into an EVO Phone Mount V4.5 -- and vice versa.

What Makes This Different

• Outboard Position: Mounts in the top of the driver-side outboard vent opening, above where the vanes start. No airflow is blocked -- it occupies space the vent doesn't use. Outside the steering wheel shadow and within easy reach of the driver.
• Modular Ball Mount: The ball is a separate, swappable component. Change holders or replace a broken ball without replacing the entire mount. Available in 17mm, 20mm, and 1-inch sizes, or purchase all sizes in one kit.
• Secured by Steel: The ball attaches to the mount body via an M5 x 35mm stainless steel bolt and nut, with an interlocking pattern on the mating surfaces to prevent rotation. Competing mounts rely on clips, which are significantly more prone to failure.
• Textured Ball: The mounting ball has a textured surface that allows phone holders to grip significantly better with less clamping pressure. Other mounts slip.
• Extended Range of Motion: New in V2.5, a slimmer ball base allows nearly 20 degrees of additional adjustment for better phone positioning and ergonomics.
• ASA Construction: Printed from ASA for superior UV resistance and temperature resilience up to 300 degrees F. Competing mounts use PETG, which can deform in heat, or ABS, which fades with UV exposure.

Ball Size Guide

The NextGen Phone Mount is available in three ball sizes. The 17mm size works with the vast majority of phone holders on the market, including all five holders we sell. The 20mm size is compatible with Offroam x Peak Design co-branded products. The 1-inch size is designed for RAM-branded accessories only. If you're unsure, choose 17mm.

Available Phone Holders

This mount requires a separate ball-compatible phone holder. The holder snaps onto the ball and locks via a screw on the back. Five name-brand holders are available to add at checkout:

• OSEV Offset Charging MagSafe: OpenSourceEV's own MagSafe holder. Offset to keep your phone clear of the vent airflow. Open center design. Dim blue LED ring for targeting at night. Uses less than 1mw when not charging -- no impact on the 12V battery. Available in 17mm only.
• ATB 720 Degree MagSafe: MagSafe holder with a secondary adjustment screw midway along the arm for the most positioning flexibility of any holder we carry.
• Lisen Offset MagSafe: MagSafe holder offset to keep your phone clear of the vent airflow. Open center design.
• Lisen Charging MagSafe: Charging MagSafe holder. Charges fast with minimal heat. Positions phone in the vent airstream to help manage heat. Near-invisible blue LED ring for targeting at night. Uses less than 1mw when not charging.
• Lisen Charging and Cooling MagSafe: Charging MagSafe holder with a built-in cooling fan. Inaudible when running. Offsets phone from the vent airstream using its own airflow. Small yellow LED indicator. Uses less than 1mw when not charging.

All magnetic holders include a metal ring for phones or cases without built-in MagSafe. Charging holders include a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Using a Charging Holder

Charging holders require a USB-A power source. The Scosche OBD-II to USB-A Quick Charge Connector is available as a bundle and is the recommended solution. It plugs into the OBD-II port in the driver footwell, includes an OBD-II passthrough so the port stays accessible, is fused inline, and has a cable long enough to route cleanly under the steering column without running behind trim or weather stripping.

Installation

1. Insert the included nut into the slot in the right mount piece, then slide it into the top of the vent opening -- it should slip in without any force and stay in place on its own. Do not force it.
2. Slide the left mount piece into the vent opening and hold it against the right piece, then thread the stainless steel bolt through the ball and left piece and into the right piece.
3. Tighten the bolt until snug -- it just needs to not rotate.
4. Remove the locking screw from your selected phone holder and slip it over the ball.
5. Lock the holder down via its locking screw. Don't over-tighten -- the textured ball surface should grip well with minimal pressure.
