I'm Rob. I own and run OpenSource EV Parts, and I'm a Rivian owner, same as you. This isn't a big company with a mission statement written by a committee. It's one owner making parts for other owners, and that shapes just about everything below. Here's what you can count on from us.
There's no call center here. No ticket queue that bounces you between departments. No AI chatbot pretending to care. When you email with a question, a fit problem, or a warranty issue, the person who answers is me, the same person who designed or curated the part, printed it, and potentially packed it. I know how these parts go together because I made them, and I'm the one who makes it right when something's wrong.
Warranty claims are handled personally and without drama: send me a photo of the issue and I'll take care of it. No runaround, no scripts, no upsell attempt disguised as support. Just an owner standing behind what he sells.
If you join our email list - first off, Thank you! - and second, that's a line of communication between you and us, nothing more. We will never sell, rent, trade, or hand off our subscriber list to anyone, for any reason. I use it to tell you about new products and the occasional update, and that is the entire extent of it. I find the practice of selling customer data gross, and I'm not going to do to you what I wouldn't want done to me. Your information stays with us. Full stop.
OpenSource EV Parts didn't start as a business plan. It started with one Rivian owner making a part he wanted for his own vehicle and sharing it on a forum because he figured other people might want it too. Everything since has grown out of that same place. I'm on my third Rivian now, two owned and the next one on order, and I run into the same little frustrations you do, make the parts I wish existed, and then offer them to the community I'm already part of.
And it really is a family operation. My two sons help pack the orders that go out, and my wife handles the runs to USPS and UPS. When you buy something from us, you're not feeding a faceless supply chain, you're helping me put my kids through college and keep my sixteen-year-old's EV charged up. That's not a line for a page. That's just where the money goes.
I'm not selling to a customer segment. I'm sharing solutions with other people who love the same vehicle I do.
Here's something you don't hear companies say out loud: I believe this has to be good thing before it's a profitable thing. I keep prices reasonable on purpose, because the goal was never to squeeze the community I belong to. It was to make the vehicles we all love more comfortable, more useful, and more personal.
That's also why every design we make is available for free on Printables. If you have a 3D printer, you can print our parts yourself at the cost of filament and never pay us a cent, and that's exactly how we want it. When you do buy a finished part, you're paying a fair price for premium material, a tested print, and real support, not a markup designed to wring out every possible dollar. I'd rather earn your trust and your repeat business than maximize what I get from a single sale.
You get an actual human who made your part. Your data never gets sold. You're treated like a fellow owner, because you are one. And the price is set to be fair, because I think that's how this should work. That's the promise, and it's not going to change.
