TripleLock Phone Mount for R2 - Passenger

The OpenSourceEV Parts TripleLock Phone Mount gives your front-seat passenger a phone spot of their own in the Rivian R2. Mounted at the far right of the dash, it holds their phone at eye level and within easy reach -- for co-piloting navigation, running the music, or watching a show at a charging stop. It locks in solid, so the screen stays steady instead of bouncing on every bump, and it leaves the dash vent working exactly as it should.

Designed, manufactured, and supported by OpenSourceEV, and extensively tested in a Rivian R2.

Why the TripleLock

  • The Right Spot: The TripleLock sits at the far right end of the dashboard, next to the passenger door. It mounts in the vent trim -- not on the airbag cover -- and above the glovebox, so it never gets in the way of opening it. It's directly in front of your passenger, out of the driver's line of sight, and clear of the R2's screens.
  • Locked In, Not Just Clipped On: Most snap-in phone mounts are held only at the top and bottom, which lets them pivot and bounce over every bump. The TripleLock is held at three points -- the right, the bottom, and a diagonal from the top to the left -- so it has nowhere to move. The phone stays steady and stays where you aimed it.
  • Your Air Vent Still Works: The right end of the R2's dash vent has a short section with no airflow. The TripleLock fits entirely inside that section, so the vent keeps blowing exactly as Rivian designed it.
  • No Damage, No Modifications: It snaps in by hand behind the existing dash trim in less than 5 seconds. No adhesives, no drilling, no tools in the car, and it pops back out cleanly whenever you want.
  • Works With the Holder You Want: The mount uses a standard ball joint, the same connection most car phone holders use. Add one of our MagSafe holders at checkout, or use a compatible holder you already own.
  • Built to Last: The ball is bolted on with a stainless steel bolt and nut, not plastic clips that can snap. If you ever switch holders or damage the ball, you replace just the ball -- not the whole mount.
  • Made for Car Interiors: This is a 3D printed part made from ASA, a plastic designed to resist sun fading and heat, so it holds up on a dashboard year-round. We print every one ourselves in Pittsburgh, PA, and back it with a 1-year warranty.
  • Driver Side Available: A mirror-image driver-side version is sold separately.

Why Three Points Matter

A phone mount is only as good as what it's anchored to. A mount held at just two points acts like a hinge: the weight of your phone rocks it back and forth, and road vibration does the rest. Your screen shakes, the holder works loose, and your phone ends up pointed somewhere you didn't aim it. The TripleLock's third, diagonal contact point removes that hinge. Once it snaps in, it stays put -- on the highway and on rough pavement.

Choosing a Phone Holder

The TripleLock is the part that attaches to your R2. The phone holder is the part that holds your phone. It clamps onto the round ball at the end of the mount, and you can tilt and rotate it to the exact angle you want, then lock it with a small screw on the back.

We've standardized on MagSafe so your phone snaps on and off magnetically with one hand. MagSafe is built into iPhone 12 and newer, and MagSafe-compatible cases are available for nearly every phone on the market, Android included. If your phone or case doesn't have MagSafe, every holder includes a metal ring you can stick to your phone or case so it works the same way.

Two holders are available at checkout, with more coming soon:

  • ATB 720 Degree MagSafe: A second adjustment point along the arm gives the most positioning flexibility of any holder we carry.
  • Lisen Offset MagSafe: A simple, slim magnetic holder with an offset arm.

There's no convenient power source on the passenger side of the R2, so charging holders are offered on the driver-side version only.

Ball Size Guide

Phone holders are made to fit a few common ball sizes, so the ball on your mount needs to match your holder. The TripleLock is available with a 17mm, 20mm, or 1-inch ball, or a combo pack with all three. The 17mm size fits the vast majority of phone holders, including every holder we sell. The 20mm size fits Offroam x Peak Design co-branded holders. The 1-inch size is for RAM-branded accessories only. If you're buying a holder from us or aren't sure, choose 17mm or the combo pack.

Notes: N/A

  1. Attach the ball to the mount with the included stainless steel bolt and nut, lining up the grooves on the ball with the grooves on the mount. Tighten until snug -- it just needs to not rotate.
  2. Loosen or remove the locking screw on your phone holder, press the holder over the ball, angle it how you like, and tighten the screw. Snug is enough -- the textured ball grips firmly without much pressure.
  3. Find the short blank section at the far left end of the driver-side dash vent, next to the door. Insert the mount behind the chrome trim and the black trim above it, and press until it snaps into place.
  4. To remove, gently tug the mount to the right and pull it backward toward you.
